イギリスのヨークシャー地方を舞台に、幼い息子を失った夫婦が、土地に秘められた伝承に翻弄され想像を絶する恐怖にのみ込まれていく姿を描いたフォークホラー。 考古学者のリチャードと妻ジュリエットは幼い息子オーウェンを連れ、ヨークシャー地方の人里離れた土地スターヴ・エイカーに移り住む。しかしオーウェンが“何かの声”を聞きはじめたことで、家族の日常は揺らぎはじめる。ある日、オーウェンがぜん息発作で命を落としてしまう。愛する息子の死は夫婦のあいだに深い溝を生み、喪失にとらわれたふたりは土地に眠る古い伝承に引き寄せられていく。リチャードは古いオークの根を掘り起こし、ジュリエットは亡き息子の魂との交信に救いを求めるようになる。彼らが気づかないうちに家の中へ招き入れた邪悪な力は、“失われたものを取り戻せる”というおぞましい可能性を差し出す。 テレビドラマ「ドクター・フー」シリーズの11代目ドクター役として知られるマット・スミスが夫リチャード、「セイント・モード　狂信」「クロール　凶暴領域」のモーフィッド・クラークが妻ジュリエットを演じ、テレビドラマ「GOTHAM ゴッサム」のエリン・リチャーズ、テレビドラマ「キャシアン・アンドー」のロバート・エムズが共演。監督・脚本は、本作が長編映画第2作となるダニエル・ココタジロ。

A folk horror film set in Yorkshire, England, depicting a couple who have lost their young son, as they are toyed with by the folklore hidden in the land and consumed by unimaginable terror. Archaeologist Richard and his wife Juliette move with their young son Owen to a remote piece of land in Yorkshire called Starve Acre. However, when Owen begins hearing "a voice," the family's daily life starts to unravel. One day, Owen dies from an asthma attack. The death of their beloved son creates a deep rift between the couple, and consumed by loss, they are drawn to the old folklore sleeping in the land. Richard digs up an old oak root, while Juliette seeks solace in communicating with her dead son's spirit. The evil force they unknowingly invite into their home offers the horrifying possibility of "reclaiming what has been lost." Matt Smith, known for his role as the Eleventh Doctor in the TV series "Doctor Who," plays the husband Richard, and Morfydd Clark of "Saint Maud" and "Crawl" plays the wife Juliette. Erin Richards of the TV series "Gotham" and Robert Emms of "Andor" also co-star. The director and screenwriter is Daniel Kokotajlo, for whom this is his second feature film.
