ニューヨーク・メトロポリタン歌劇場（MET）の最新オペラ公演を映像収録し、映画館で上映する「METライブビューイング」2025～26シーズンの第3作。オーストリアの文豪ホーフマンスタールが19世紀ウィーンの貴族社会で織りなされる恋物語を描いた脚本を、リヒャルト・シュトラウスによる洗練された音楽で彩ったオペラ「アラベッラ」を収録（2025年11月22日上演舞台を収録）。 1860年頃のウィーン。退役軍人ヴァルトナー伯爵一家は破産寸前で婚姻費用もないため、次女ズデンカは男装させ、長女アラベッラは裕福な相手と結婚させたいと考えていた。しかしアラベッラは言い寄ってくる男たちに無関心で、ズデンカの友人マッテオもその1人だった。やがてアラベッラは大地主マンドリカの求婚を受け入れ、失恋したマッテオは絶望する。マッテオに恋したズデンカは心配し、姉の部屋の鍵と偽って自分の部屋の鍵を渡すが、それを立ち聞きしたマンドリカは裏切りだと思い込み逆上する。
The third production of the 2025–26 season of "MET Live Viewing," which brings the latest performances from New York’s Metropolitan Opera (MET) to movie theaters. This installment features Richard Strauss’s *Arabella*, an opera set to a libretto by the great Austrian writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal that depicts a tale of love woven into the aristocratic society of 19th-century Vienna (scheduled to be recorded from the performance on November 22, 2025). Vienna, circa 1860. The family of the retired Count Waldner is on the verge of bankruptcy. Lacking the funds for marriage dowries, they have disguised their younger daughter, Zdenka, as a boy, while pinning their hopes on their eldest daughter, Arabella, to marry into wealth. Arabella, however, remains indifferent to her many suitors, including Zdenka’s friend Matteo. When Arabella finally accepts a proposal from the wealthy landowner Mandryka, a heartbroken Matteo is driven to despair. Zdenka, who is secretly in love with Matteo, grows concerned and hands him the key to her own room, claiming it is the key to her sister’s. Overhearing this, Mandryka becomes convinced he has been betrayed and flies into a jealous rage.
