The sixth production of the 2025–26 "MET Live Viewing" season, which brings the latest performances from the Metropolitan Opera (MET) in New York to the big screen. This installment features Wagner’s ultimate opera of love—a work overflowing with sensual music—presented through an innovative new production by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the rapturous vocals of Lise Davidsen (scheduled to be recorded on March 21, 2026). In the legendary Middle Ages, the Irish princess Isolde sets sail for Cornwall to enter a political marriage with King Marke, traveling on a ship helmed by the King’s nephew and loyal vassal, Tristan. Because Tristan is the slayer of her former fiancé, Isolde harbors a complex mix of love and hate toward him and attempts a double suicide by poison. However, her maid Brangäne gives her a love potion instead, leading the two to fall into a maddening passion. Although Isolde continues her trysts with Tristan even after becoming Queen, King Marke and his courtier Melot eventually return to the site of their secret meeting, where Tristan is gravely wounded by Melot’s sword.
