ニューヨークのメトロポリタン歌劇場（MET）で上演される最新オペラ公演を映画館で上映する「METライブビューイング」2022～23シーズンの第10作。モーツァルトの大人気オペラを、俳優としても活躍する演出家サイモン・マクバーニーのマジカルな演出で描く「魔笛」（2023年6月3日上演）を収録。 王子タミーノは大蛇に追われて失神したところを、夜の女王の3人の侍女に救われる。夜の女王は悪漢ザラストロに連れ去られた娘パミーナの救出をタミーノに依頼。タミーノは侍女たちから「魔法の笛」を与えられ、鳥刺しのパパゲーノとともにパミーナのもとへ向かう。しかし実はザラストロは「光の世界」を支配する高僧で、「闇の世界」を支配する夜の女王からパミーナを救おうとしていた。タミーノはパミーナと結ばれるために「試練」を受けることになるが……。
The 10th installment of the 'MET Live in HD' series for the 2022-23 season, which screens the latest opera performances from New York's Metropolitan Opera in cinemas. This entry captures Mozart's immensely popular opera 'The Magic Flute' (performed June 3, 2023), brought to life with a magical staging by director Simon McBurney, who is also active as an actor. Prince Tamino, chased by a giant serpent, faints and is rescued by three ladies of the Queen of the Night. The Queen of the Night asks Tamino to rescue her daughter Pamina, who has been abducted by the villain Sarastro. Tamino is given a 'magic flute' by the ladies and sets off with the bird-catcher Papageno to find Pamina. However, it turns out that Sarastro is actually a high priest who rules the 'world of light' and was trying to save Pamina from the Queen of the Night, who rules the 'world of darkness'. Tamino must undergo 'trials' in order to be united with Pamina...
