The 7th installment of the popular 'MET Live in HD' series for the 2018-19 season, which screens the latest opera performances from New York's Metropolitan Opera in cinemas. This entry captures Bizet's masterpiece opera 'Carmen' (performed February 2, 2019), depicting the fate of a man bewitched by a femme fatale, in a dynamic production by acclaimed director Richard Eyre. In 19th-century Spain, Corporal Don José, who dreams of marrying his childhood sweetheart Micaëla in his hometown, encounters Carmen, a free-spirited beautiful gypsy woman. Completely captivated by Carmen, José helps her escape after she is arrested for a brawl and is sent to the guardhouse. Upon his release, José joins the band of outlaws that Carmen is part of, but Carmen's heart begins to turn toward the glamorous bullfighter...
