ニューヨークのメトロポリタン歌劇場（MET）で上演される最新オペラ公演を映画館で上映する人気企画「METライブビューイング」2018～19シーズンの第10作。フランス革命に翻弄された修道女たちの史実をプーランクの鮮やかな音楽でオペラ化した「カルメル会修道女の対話」（2019年5月11日上演）を収録。18世紀末、フランス革命に揺れるパリ。ド・ラ・フォルス侯爵家の娘ブランシュは極端に神経質なため俗世界で生きていけず、コンピエーニュにあるカルメル会の修道院に入る。しかし革命政府は修道院の解散と建物の売却を決定し、司祭も追放されてしまう。修道女たちは殉教を決意するが、怯えたブランシュは修道院から脱走。やがて、潜伏して密かに信仰を守っていた修道女たちは捕らえられ、死刑宣告を受ける。修道女たちが断頭台に上る中、群衆の間からブランシュが現われ……。
The 10th installment of the popular 'MET Live in HD' series for the 2018-19 season, which screens the latest opera performances from New York's Metropolitan Opera in cinemas. This entry captures 'Dialogues of the Carmelites' (performed May 11, 2019), Poulenc's vivid musical adaptation of the historical story of nuns caught up in the French Revolution. In late 18th-century Paris, shaken by the French Revolution, Blanche, the daughter of the Marquis de la Force, is so extremely neurotic that she cannot live in the secular world and enters a Carmelite convent in Compiègne. However, the revolutionary government orders the dissolution of the convent and the sale of its buildings, and the priest is expelled. The nuns resolve to embrace martyrdom, but the frightened Blanche flees the convent. Eventually, the nuns who had been hiding and secretly maintaining their faith are arrested and sentenced to death. As the nuns ascend the guillotine one by one, Blanche appears from among the crowd...
