A documentary chronicling the history of the American band Dinosaur Jr., a central force in the alternative rock scene from the late 1980s through the 1990s. Formed in Massachusetts in 1984 by members directly impacted by the 80s US hardcore/punk scene, Dinosaur Jr. gained immense support for their unique sound, wrapping melancholic and nostalgic melodies in harsh, roaring noise. Despite lineup changes and hiatuses, they continue to create new music today. Focusing on the relationship between the three original members—guitarist/vocalist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow, and drummer Murph—the film traces their roughly 30-year trajectory through rare past footage and testimonies from musicians close to them. Produced by the band themselves, it is directed by music video filmmaker Philipp Reichenheim, who is related to J Mascis by marriage.
