The fear that lies beyond these mysterious behaviors of pet dogs, which everyone can relate to, is depicted by director Ben Leonberg in his feature debut, after a three-year production period. It premiered at SXSW (South by Southwest Film Festival) in 2025 and won the Best Dog Acting Award. It garnered attention as an innovative horror film told from a dog's perspective, and as soon as the trailer was released, it became a hot topic on social media. Originally scheduled for a limited release, it was hastily expanded to 1,650 screens and achieved a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Praised as 'one of the most moving horror films of 2025', it made the US top 10 for two consecutive weeks. At the 2026 Astra Film Awards in the 'Horror or Thriller' category, Indie (the dog), the star of this film, achieved the historic feat of winning the Best Performance Award for an animal actor, defeating a stellar lineup including Alfie Williams ('28 Years Later'), Ethan Hawke ('The Black Phone 2'), and Alison Brie ('Together'). Indie is a retriever dog living with his owner Todd in an apartment. Recently, Todd's health has been poor, and one day he vomits blood. Todd's sister Vera, who happens to visit the apartment, rushes him to the hospital. After being discharged, Todd takes Indie and moves into his grandfather's house, which has been vacant since his grandfather's mysterious death. Todd borrows a backup generator from a neighbor and spends his time with a little light and watching old home videos of his grandfather, but Indie senses something strange in the house. On the phone with Vera, Todd wonders if there is a curse on the house and his grandfather.
