ヌーベルバーグを代表する巨匠ジャン＝リュック・ゴダールによる壮大な映像モニュメント「映画史」を、ゴダール監督自ら再編集した特別編。 ジャン＝リュック・ゴダール監督が1988年～98年の10年をかけて完成させた、全8章・合計5時間におよぶ超大作「映画史」。ゴダール監督が愛した古今東西の映画・音楽・文学・美術などを縦横無尽に引用しながら、豊穣なイメージとサウンドでつむがれる映像芸術は、ヨーロッパを中心に大きな注目を集めた。 本作は、デジタルビデオ作品としてリリースされたオリジナル版を、2002年にゴダール監督が自ら新たな論点と独自の視点で再構築。劇場公開用作品として35ミリフィルムで製作された。2005年・第58回カンヌ国際映画祭にて特別上映。日本では、2026年の特集上映企画「21世紀のジャン＝リュック・ゴダール わたしたちの映画 2001-2010」（26年6月20日～、シアター・イメージフォーラム渋谷ほか全国順次公開）にて劇場初公開。
A special edition of the monumental video monument 'Histoire(s) du cinéma' by Jean-Luc Godard, the master of the French New Wave, re-edited by Godard himself. 'Histoire(s) du cinéma' is an epic work completed by Godard over ten years from 1988 to 1998, spanning 8 chapters and totaling 5 hours. This video art, weaving together a rich tapestry of images and sounds while freely quoting films, music, literature, and art from around the world that Godard loved, garnered significant attention, particularly in Europe. This film is a reconstruction of the original digital video version, re-edited by Godard in 2002 with new arguments and his unique perspective, and produced on 35mm film for theatrical release. It was given a special screening at the 58th Cannes Film Festival in 2005. In Japan, it will be screened in theaters for the first time as part of the special screening series 'Jean-Luc Godard in the 21st Century: Our Films 2001-2010' (starting June 20, 2026, at Theater Image Forum Shibuya and other locations nationwide).
