筒井康隆の同名小説を、「桐島、部活やめるってよ」「騙し絵の牙」の吉田大八監督が映画化。穏やかな生活を送っていた独居老人の主人公の前に、ある日「敵」が現れる物語を、モノクロの映像で描いた。 大学教授の職をリタイアし、妻には先立たれ、祖父の代から続く日本家屋にひとり暮らす、渡辺儀助77歳。毎朝決まった時間に起床し、料理は自分でつくり、衣類や使う文房具一つに至るまでを丹念に扱う。時には気の置けないわずかな友人と酒を酌み交わし、教え子を招いてディナーも振る舞う。この生活スタイルで預貯金があと何年持つかを計算しながら、日常は平和に過ぎていった。そんな穏やかな時間を過ごす儀助だったが、ある日、書斎のパソコンの画面に「敵がやって来る」と不穏なメッセージが流れてくる。 主人公の儀助役を12年ぶりの映画主演になる長塚京三が演じるほか、教え子役を瀧内公美、亡くなった妻役を黒沢あすか、バーで出会った大学生役を河合優実がそれぞれ演じ、松尾諭、松尾貴史、カトウシンスケ、中島歩らが脇を固める。2024年・第37回東京国際映画祭コンペティション部門に出品され、東京グランプリ／東京都知事賞、最優秀監督賞（吉田大八）、最優秀男優賞（長塚京三）の3冠に輝いた。
Director Daihachi Yoshida (*The Kirishima Thing*, *Kiba: The Fangs of Fiction*) adapts Yasutaka Tsutsui’s novel of the same name into a monochrome cinematic experience. It tells the story of an elderly man living a tranquil, solitary life who is suddenly confronted by an "enemy." Gisuke Watanabe, 77, is a retired university professor and widower living alone in the traditional Japanese house he inherited from his grandfather. He wakes at the same hour every morning, prepares his own meals, and treats every item he owns—from his clothing to his stationery—with meticulous care. Occasionally, he shares drinks with a few close friends or hosts dinner for a former student. His days pass in peace as he calculates how many more years his savings will sustain this lifestyle. However, into this quiet existence comes a disturbing message, flashing across his computer screen: "The enemy is coming." Kyozo Nagatsuka takes on his first leading film role in 12 years as Gisuke. He is joined by Kumi Takiuchi as his former student, Asuka Kurosawa as his late wife, and Yuumi Kawai as a university student he meets at a bar, with Satoru Matsuo, Takashi Matsuo, Shinsuke Kato, and Ayumu Nakajima rounding out the supporting cast. The film competed at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2024, where it achieved a triple crown: the Tokyo Grand Prix / The Governor of Tokyo Award, Best Director (Daihachi Yoshida), and Best Actor (Kyozo Nagatsuka).
