A musical film that fuses footage of legendary blues musicians performing in the 1970s with the drama of a young couple's love and hardship in Harlem. Directed by music documentary filmmaker Robert Manthoulis, it dramatically depicts the turbulent relationship of a young couple alongside recordings of soul-stirring performances and interviews by renowned musicians such as B.B. King and Buddy Guy. Freddie, who moved from North Carolina to New York with his mother as a child, served five years for armed robbery. After his release, he marries Hattie and they live with his mother. Freddie tries to find work as a nursing assistant, using his experience working in the prison hospital, but without success. He spends his gloomy days asking Hattie for money and hanging around the pool hall. Hattie, fed up with him, runs off with a man who sings the blues at her familiar neighborhood bar... In Japan, it was released in theaters for the first time in December 2024 in a 2K restored version.
