タリバン支配下のアフガニスタンで自由を求め続ける女性たちの闘いの日々を記録したドキュメンタリー。 2021年8月、タリバンがアフガニスタンのほぼ全土を掌握し、20年にわたる民主政権が崩壊した。タリバンの復権により、再び女性たちは外で働くことができなくなり、教育の機会を奪われ、少女たちは年の離れた男性と結婚させられ、家に閉じ込められるようになった。ラシュミンとナスタランの姉妹は無数の不平等に立ち向かうべく、他の女性たちと共に街に出ては声を上げる。銃を構えた男たちにも怯むことなく、アフガニスタンの現状を発信するためスカーフにスマートフォンを隠して撮影する。親族宅などを転々としながら抵抗を続ける彼女たちだったが、家父長制が支配する社会で、父はデモに参加する女性たちを軽蔑し、隣人からの密告にも怯える日々を余儀なくされる。そんな過酷な状況に身を置きながらも、ラシュミンは次世代に同じ苦しみを経験させたくないとの想いに突き動かされ、街へ飛び出していく。 監督はアフガニスタン出身の女性映画作家・プロデューサー・ライターで、現在は亡命生活を送りながら祖国の女性たちの声を世界に向けて発信し続けるザイナブ・エンテザール。
A documentary recording the daily struggles of women who continue to seek freedom in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. In August 2021, the Taliban seized control of nearly all of Afghanistan, collapsing the two-decade democratic government. With the Taliban's return to power, women were once again barred from working outside the home, deprived of educational opportunities, and girls were forced into marriages with much older men and confined to their houses. Sisters Rashmin and Nastaran, along with other women, take to the streets to raise their voices against countless inequalities. Undaunted even by armed men, they hide smartphones under their scarves to film and broadcast the current situation in Afghanistan. They continue their resistance while moving from one relative's home to another, but in a patriarchal society, their father despises the women participating in demonstrations, and they are forced to live in fear of neighbors informing on them. Despite such harsh circumstances, Rashmin, driven by the desire not to make the next generation experience the same suffering, rushes out into the streets. The director is Zainab Entezar, an Afghan-born female filmmaker, producer, and writer who, while living in exile, continues to broadcast the voices of the women of her homeland to the world.
