「老人と子供」「愛と宿命の泉」などで知られるフランスのクロード・ベリ監督が1983年に手がけ、フランスで400万人近くを動員する大ヒットを記録したフレンチノワール。パリの裏社会を舞台に、孤独な中年男性と麻薬密売人の青年の友情と復讐劇を通し、都市から追いやられた者たちの孤独と哀しみを鮮烈に描き出す。 パリ18区。ある夜、アルコール依存症の中年男性ランベールが働くガソリンスタンドに、ユダヤとアラブの血を引く青年ベンスサンが逃げ込んでくる。それ以来、ベンスサンはたびたびランベールに会いに来るようになり、ランベールもまた彼の世話を焼きはじめるが、麻薬の密売人であるベンスサンはバイクに乗った2人組の男たちに殺されてしまう。ランベールは復讐を誓い、銃を手に夜の街へと繰り出していく。 フランスの国民的コメディアンのコリューシュが主人公ランベール、「ピストルと少年」のリシャール・アンコニナがベンスサンを演じ、第9回セザール賞にてコリューシュが最優秀主演男優賞、アンコニナが最優秀助演男優賞と有望新人賞を受賞した。「太陽が知っている」のアラン・パージュによる原作をもとに、パージュとベリ監督が共同で脚本を担当。日本では2026年7月に4Kデジタル版にてリバイバル公開。
A French noir directed by Claude Berri in 1983, known for 'The Old Man and the Child' and 'Jean de Florette'/'Manon des Sources,' which became a huge hit in France attracting nearly 4 million viewers. Set in the Parisian underworld, it vividly portrays the loneliness and sorrow of those cast out from the city through a tale of friendship and revenge between a lonely middle-aged man and a young drug dealer. In the 18th arrondissement of Paris, one night, a young man named Bensoussan, of Jewish and Arab descent, flees into the gas station where Lambert, an alcoholic middle-aged man, works. Bensoussan begins visiting Lambert frequently, and Lambert starts looking after him. However, Bensoussan, a drug dealer, is killed by two men on a motorcycle. Lambert swears revenge, takes a gun, and heads out into the night. French national comedian Coluche plays the protagonist Lambert, and Richard Anconina, known for 'The Pistol and the Boy,' plays Bensoussan. At the 9th César Awards, Coluche won Best Actor, and Anconina won Best Supporting Actor and Most Promising Actor. Based on the novel by Alain Page, known for 'The Sun Knows,' the screenplay was co-written by Page and director Berri. Scheduled for a revival release in Japan in July 2026 in a 4K digital version.
