「時計じかけのオレンジ」のマルコム・マクダウェルが主演を務め、旧ソ連で50人以上を殺害したとされる実在の猟奇殺人犯アンドレイ・チカチーロをモデルに描いたクライムスリラー。 教師のエヴィレンコは生徒への強姦未遂事件を起こして職を失った後、女性や子どもを次々と殺害しては食べるようになる。連続殺人事件の犯人が捕まらないまま4年が過ぎたころ、捜査に加わることになった検察官レシエフは、エヴィレンコの心の闇に迫っていく。 原作は、デビッド・グリエコがチカチーロの裁判を傍聴して執筆した小説「Il comunista che mangiava i bambini（子どもを食べた共産主義者）」。当初はベルナルド・ベルトルッチ監督が映画化を希望したが病に倒れ逝去したため、原作者グリエコが自ら長編初メガホンをとり完成させた。以前からグリエコ監督の友人であったマクダウェルが実際のチカチーロの映像を参考にしながら殺人鬼エヴィレンコを怪演し、「イコライザー」のマートン・ソーカス、「マリーゴールド・ホテルで会いましょう」のロナルド・ピックアップが共演。日本では長らく未公開のままだったが、2026年10月に劇場初公開。
Malcolm McDowell, star of A Clockwork Orange, leads this crime thriller modeled on Andrei Chikatilo, the real-life serial killer believed to have murdered more than 50 people in the former Soviet Union. After a teacher named Evilenko loses his job for attempting to rape a student, he begins killing and eating women and children one after another. Four years pass with the serial killer still at large, and when prosecutor Lesiev joins the investigation, he begins to probe the darkness within Evilenko's mind. The source material is David Grieco's novel Il comunista che mangiava i bambini (The Communist Who Ate Children), written after the author attended Chikatilo's trial. Bernardo Bertolucci originally hoped to direct the adaptation, but after he fell ill and passed away, Grieco, the original author, took the helm himself to complete the film as his feature directorial debut. McDowell, long a friend of director Grieco, delivers a chilling performance as the killer Evilenko, drawing on actual footage of Chikatilo, with Mårten Sökas of The Equalizer and Ronald Pickup of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel co-starring. Long unreleased in Japan, the film finally receives its theatrical premiere in October 2026.
