ダンスの概念を根本から再定義したマース・カニングハムの生誕100周年を記念し、彼の活動の軌跡をたどったドキュメンタリー。 1930年代後半からアメリカで振付師・舞踊家として活躍したマース・カニングハムは、「音楽と振付は独立して存在する」という画期的な哲学や、偶然性を振付に取り入れる手法などにより、ダンスの新たな領域を切りひらくパフォーマンスで世界に衝撃を与えた。 本作では、未公開のアーカイブ映像を通してカニングハムの哲学や肉声に触れると共に、生涯のパートナーであった前衛音楽の巨匠ジョン・ケージや、ロバート・ラウシェンバーグ、アンディ・ウォーホルら20世紀を代表する芸術家たちとの協働の裏側に迫る。さらに、無名時代の1944年から名声を確立する1972年までの約30年間に生み出された14の代表作を、現代のダンサーたちが再演。ビルの屋上や森の中など規格外のロケーションで、空間と身体が躍動する様子を映し出す。日本では、特集上映企画「パフォーマンス・アート：身体と空間をめぐる映画祭」（2026年8月1日〜、ユーロスペースほか全国順次公開）にて劇場初公開。

A documentary commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Merce Cunningham, who fundamentally redefined the concept of dance. Active as a choreographer and dancer in the United States from the late 1930s, Merce Cunningham shocked the world with performances that opened up new frontiers in dance, through his groundbreaking philosophy that 'music and choreography exist independently' and his incorporation of chance into choreography. The film explores Cunningham's philosophy and voice through never-before-seen archival footage, and delves into the behind-the-scenes collaborations with his lifelong partner, avant-garde music master John Cage, and 20th-century representative artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol. Furthermore, 14 representative works created over approximately 30 years, from his unknown days in 1944 to his establishment of fame in 1972, are re-staged by contemporary dancers. It captures the dynamism of space and body in extraordinary locations such as building rooftops and forests. The film will have its first theatrical release in Japan as part of the special screening project 'Performance Art: A Film Festival Around Body and Space' (starting August 1, 2026, at Eurospace and other theaters nationwide).
