台湾のCM界で活躍し、台湾人として初めてカンヌ国際広告賞の金獅子賞を受賞したワン・チャイシアン監督の長編デビュー作。戒厳令解除後の急速な経済成長と不安定な政治状況のなかで渦巻く焦燥と欲望を、実験的な映像表現と大胆な映像言語で鮮烈に描き出す。1997年・第47回ベルリン国際映画祭フォーラム部門に出品され台湾映画の新たな可能性を世界に示したが、台湾では公開からわずか数日で上映を打ち切られた。 台北に暮らすダンサーの青年はニューヨークに行くことを夢見ながら、夜はナイトクラブで働き、昼は恋人と過ごす日々を送っていた。祭りの夜、恋人の姿をビデオカメラで追っていた彼は、偶然にも殺人事件を撮影してしまい、謎の殺し屋から追われる身となる。混沌とした台北の街を疾走するなかで、現実と白昼夢の境界は次第にあいまいになり、ニューヨークからは疫病の知らせが届く。 主演は、1990年代に舞踏団「無垢舞蹈劇場」の主要ダンサーとしてヨーロッパや日本での海外公演にも参加したチェン・ホンレン。2026年10月、デジタルリマスター版にて劇場公開。

The feature debut of director Wang Chia-hsiang, who was active in Taiwan's commercial scene and became the first Taiwanese to win the Golden Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Awards. Set amid rapid economic growth and unstable political conditions following the lifting of martial law, the film vividly depicts swirling impatience and desire through experimental visual expression and bold cinematic language. It was submitted to the Forum section of the 47th Berlin International Film Festival in 1997, showing the world new possibilities for Taiwanese cinema, but its theatrical run in Taiwan was cut short after only a few days. A young dancer living in Taipei dreams of going to New York, works at a nightclub at night, and spends his days with his lover. On the night of a festival, while chasing his lover with a video camera, he accidentally films a murder and finds himself pursued by a mysterious hitman. As he races through the chaotic streets of Taipei, the boundary between reality and daydream gradually blurs, and news of a plague arrives from New York. The lead role is played by Chen Hung-jung, who participated in overseas performances in Europe and Japan as a principal dancer of the dance company "Mute Dance Theatre" in the 1990s. The digitally remastered version will be released in theaters in October 2026.
