爆心地に近接していたことから甚大な被害を受けた長崎の城山小学校を舞台に、原爆で母親を失った3人の少年少女の友情を描く。現地の子どもたちを取材し、その生活風景から物語を着想する方法は、以後、木村の児童映画制作の根幹をなすこととなる。
Set at Shiroyama Elementary School in Nagasaki, which suffered devastating damage due to its proximity to the hypocenter, this film depicts the friendship of three boys and girls who lost their mothers to the atomic bomb. The method of interviewing local children and drawing inspiration for the story from scenes of their daily lives would thereafter form the foundation of Kimura's children's filmmaking.
