死んだ祖父と孫の身体が入れ替わってしまったことから巻き起こる騒動を描いたハートフルコメディ。俳優の道をあきらめた過去を持つ81歳の元教師・西本匡克が俳優である2人の実孫とともに出演して話題を呼んだ舞台「米寿の伝言」を映画化し、85歳となった西本が映画初主演を務めた。 発明家である変わり者の祖父・米蔵が、米寿を前に他界した。孫のキョウヘイとその弟キッペイが祖父の遺した発明品を整理していると、誤作動により棺桶の中の祖父とキッペイの中身が入れ替わってしまう。米蔵との再会に喜んだのもつかの間、発明品は故障し元に戻すことができなくなる。火葬までに弟を救うべく奔走するキョウヘイだったが……。 「ポプラン」の西本健太朗とテレビドラマ「3年A組 今から皆さんは、人質です」の西本銀二郎が舞台版に続いてキョウヘイとキッペイを演じ、長谷川かすみ、山田姫奈、中川パラダイス、浜野謙太が脇を固める。西本匡克の実娘である西本浩子がプロデューサーを務め、「散歩時間 その日を待ちながら」などの脚本家・ガクカワサキが長編初メガホンをとった。
A heartwarming comedy depicting the chaos that ensues when a deceased grandfather and his grandson swap bodies. The film is an adaptation of the stage play "The Message of the 88th Birthday," which garnered attention for featuring Masakatsu Nishimoto—an 81-year-old former teacher who had once given up on acting—alongside his two real-life grandsons, both professional actors. Now 85, Nishimoto takes on his first leading film role. Yonezo, an eccentric inventor, passes away just before his 88th birthday. While his grandson Kyohei and younger brother Kippei are sorting through the inventions their grandfather left behind, a malfunction causes the grandfather in the coffin and Kippei to swap souls. Their joy at reuniting with Yonezo is short-lived when the device breaks, making it impossible to switch them back. Kyohei scrambles to save his brother before the cremation, but... Kentaro Nishimoto of "Popran" and Ginjiro Nishimoto of the TV drama "Mr. Hiiragi's Homeroom" reprise their roles as Kyohei and Kippei from the stage version, supported by Kasumi Hasegawa, Hina Yamada, Nakagawa Paradise, and Kenta Hamano. Masakatsu Nishimoto's real-life daughter, Hiroko Nishimoto, serves as producer, while screenwriter Gaku Kawasaki ("Walking Time: Waiting for That Day") makes his feature-length directorial debut.
