2025年5月に引退した九州プロレス所属のプロレスラー、めんたい☆キッドの軌跡に追ったドキュメンタリー。 小さな町でプロレスラーを夢見ていた少年・片上学は、自身の身長の低さからプロレスラーになることをあきらめ、いつしかその夢を忘れてしまう。鬱屈した思春期を過ごし、目標が見えないまま浪人生活を経て大学へ進学。そこで出会ったプロレス研究部をきっかけに、幼い頃の衝動がよみがえり、プロレスラーになるという明確な目標を胸にその道を歩み出す。メキシコで念願のプロデビューを果たし、挫折を繰り返しながらも、さまざまな出会いや周囲の応援を受け、「世界一子どもたちに愛されたプロレスラー」と呼ばれるまでに成長する。人気が絶頂の中、自身が納得できるパフォーマンスを続けられる内に、めんたい☆キッドは引退を決意する。 監督は、「空白ライブ」「6600ボルト」「雲旅」などのドキュメンタリー作品を発表してきた映画監督・シンガーソングライターの下本地崇。
A documentary tracing the journey of Mentaiko Kid, a professional wrestler from Kyushu Pro Wrestling who retired in May 2025. As a boy in a small town, Manabu Katagami dreamed of becoming a pro wrestler but gave up due to his short stature, eventually forgetting the dream. After a gloomy adolescence and a period as a ronin, he entered university without a clear goal. There, he discovered the pro wrestling research club, rekindling his childhood impulse and setting him on a path with the clear goal of becoming a pro wrestler. After making his long-awaited professional debut in Mexico and facing repeated setbacks, he grew through various encounters and support from those around him, eventually becoming known as 'the pro wrestler most loved by children in the world.' At the peak of his popularity, while he could still perform to his own satisfaction, Mentaiko Kid decided to retire. The director is Takashi Shimomoto, a film director and singer-songwriter who has released documentary works such as 'Blank Live,' '6600 Volts,' and 'Cloud Journey.'
