山小屋の多い八ヶ岳を山岳写真家の菊池哲男と共にめぐり、自然と命に向きあう人々の知られざる物語を圧倒的な映像美でつづったドキュメンタリー。TBSドキュメンタリー映画祭2025年にて上映された「小屋番 KOYABAN 八ヶ岳に生きる」をもとに、四季折々の自然をとらえた新たな映像やインタビューを加えて再編集を施し、劇場版として公開する。 「コヤガタケ」と呼ばれるほど多くの山小屋が存在する八ヶ岳を、山岳写真家の菊池哲男とともにめぐっていく中で、さまざまな思いを抱えながら「小屋を営むもの＝小屋番」の道を選んだ人々にカメラを向け、コンビニも車もないなかで自然と真正面から向きあう過酷な日常を選んだ理由や、登山を楽しむ人々を支え、時には死と遭遇することもある彼らの仕事に迫る。
This documentary journeys through the Yatsugatake mountains alongside mountain photographer Tetsuo Kikuchi, capturing the untold stories of those who confront nature and life through stunningly beautiful cinematography. Based on "KOYABAN: Living in Yatsugatake," which premiered at the TBS Documentary Film Festival 2025, this theatrical release has been re-edited with new interviews and footage of the changing seasons. In a region so dense with mountain huts it is nicknamed "Koyagatake," the film turns its lens toward the "koyaban" (hut keepers) who have chosen this path. It explores why they embrace a harsh daily existence facing nature head-on without the comforts of cars or convenience stores, and delves into the gravity of their work—supporting climbers and, at times, encountering death.
