自然豊かな北海道の小さな町を舞台に、家族の再生の物語をつづったヒューマンドラマ。 北海道で暮らす漁師の善次は、ケンカ別れしてから一度も会っていない息子の光雄をがんで亡くしてしまう。東京で執り行われた葬儀にも出席しないまま四十九日を迎えようとしていたある日、光雄の妻・透子が娘の美晴と凛を連れて訪ねてくる。突然の訪問に戸惑い上手く接することができない善次だったが、彼女たちを通して亡き息子に思いを馳せていく。自閉症で聴覚過敏を持つ美晴を守るのに必死な透子と、守られてきた世界から外に踏み出したいと願いながらも、不安を感じると夢の中に逃げ込んでしまう美晴。小さな町の人々とも交流するなかで、3人は自分自身の内なる声に耳を傾けはじめる。 息子を亡くした漁師・善次役で升毅が主演を務め、息子の妻・透子を田中美里、自閉症の孫娘・美晴を日髙麻鈴が演じた。劇団牧羊犬を主宰し、短編映画で国内外から高く評価されてきた渋谷悠の長編初監督作。

A story of family regeneration, where words weave the heart. Zenji, a fisherman in a small northern town, loses his son Mitsuo, from whom he had parted on bad terms, to cancer. As he is about to observe the 49th day after the death without attending the funeral, Mitsuo's wife Toko visits with her daughters Miharu and Rin. Through them, Zenji reflects on his deceased son. Miharu, who has autism and is hypersensitive to sound, wishes to step outside the protected world she lives in, but when she fails or feels anxious, she hides under her futon and escapes into dreams. That place is the world of the picture book 'An Umbrella for Miharu,' which her father Mitsuo wrote while on his sickbed before he died.
