イントロダクション 美術品が陳列されたままのエルミタージュ美術館（所蔵品300万点以上は世界最大級）内部を使い、ロシア近・現代300年史を、世界映画史上初の90分ワンカットの手法で描いた史上最も贅沢な作品。世界的に大ヒットを記録し、日本でも初公開時に大きな話題を呼びヒットした。 ストーリー 過去と現在、うつつと幻想が交錯する不思議な時間旅行が今、始まる──。19世紀に実在したフランスの外交官キュスティーヌ伯爵と、ソクーロフ自身のナレーションに導かれ、ロシアが世界に誇るエルミタージュ美術館内部を巡っていく。ラファエロ、ダ・ヴィンチ、レンブラント、エル・グレコなど超一級の美術品が展示された館内で、ロシア300年の歴史が立ち現れていく。ある時はピョートル大帝に、ある時は観劇するエカテリーナ女帝に、ある時はニコライ1世に謁見するペルシャの使節に、またある時は革命が忍び寄るニコライ2世の最後の晩餐にも、彼らは遭遇するのだった──。 アレクサンドル・ソクーロフ Aleksandr Sokurov 1951年シベリア生まれ。ロシアを代表する映画監督。ソ連時代には全作品が公開禁止となるなど、国家権力による検閲や上映禁止と対峙しながら創作を続けてきた。当局による『独裁者たちのとき』（2022年）の上映禁止を受け一時は引退を示唆したものの、その創作意欲は衰えることなく、現在も精力的に制作を続ける。映像・音・音楽・俳優の演技を一体化させ、一幅の絵画を描くように構成される独自の作風は、映画界のみならず、美術や文学をはじめとする幅広い分野で高く評価されている。なお、現在は後進の育成にも力を注いでいる。

Guided by the 19th-century French diplomat Marquis de Custine and Sokurov's own narration, we tour the interior of Russia's proud Hermitage Museum. Within the halls displaying masterpieces by Raphael, da Vinci, Rembrandt, El Greco, and others, 300 years of Russian history emerges. At times they encounter Peter the Great, at times Catherine the Great watching a play, at times a Persian envoy granted an audience with Nicholas I, and at times the last supper of Nicholas II as revolution creeps closer—. Aleksandr Sokurov: Born in Siberia in 1951. A leading Russian film director. During the Soviet era, all his works were banned from release, and he continued creating while confronting state censorship and screening prohibitions. After authorities banned 'Fairytale' (2022), he hinted at retirement, but his creative drive remains undiminished, and he continues to work prolifically. His unique style, integrating image, sound, music, and actors' performances to compose like a single painting, is highly acclaimed not only in the film world but across a wide range of fields including art and literature. He is currently also focusing on nurturing the next generation.
