ザ・ローリング・ストーンズが「ロックンロールとサーカスの融合」を目指して企画・製作・ホスト役を務め、1968年12月に撮影されながらも諸事情により1996年までお蔵入りとなった音楽映画。 歴史的名盤「べガーズ・バンケット」をリリースしたばかりのストーンズは、ミック・ジャガーが傑出したパフォーマンスを見せる「悪魔を憐れむ歌」など6曲を披露。リーダーでギタリストのブライアン・ジョーンズは本作を撮影した半年後に27歳の若さで急逝し、これがストーンズとしての最後のパフォーマンスとなった。さらに、本作のためにジョン・レノンがエリック・クラプトン、キース・リチャーズと組んだバンド、ザ・ダーティ・マックをはじめ、ザ・フー、マリアンヌ・フェイスフルら豪華ミュージシャンたちが参加。映画「ビートルズ レット・イット・ビー」のマイケル・リンゼイ＝ホッグが監督を務めた。19年に制作された4Kレストア版で2022年8月に日本初劇場公開。
A music film planned, produced, and hosted by The Rolling Stones with the aim of 'fusing rock and roll with the circus,' filmed in December 1968 but shelved until 1996 due to various circumstances. The Stones, having just released the historic album 'Beggars Banquet,' perform six songs including 'Sympathy for the Devil,' with Mick Jagger delivering an outstanding performance. Leader and guitarist Brian Jones died suddenly at the young age of 27 six months after filming, making this the Stones' final performance with him. Additionally, the film features a host of star musicians including The Dirty Mac, a band formed for this project by John Lennon with Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, as well as The Who and Marianne Faithfull. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, known for the film 'Let It Be.' A 4K restored version was produced in 2019 and received its first Japanese theatrical release in August 2022.
