応仁の乱後の荒廃した京都を舞台に、京町衆が武士階級に対抗して自らの手で町を守り、祇園祭の復興に挑む姿を描いた壮大な時代劇。圧巻の山鉾巡行シーンは、エキストラ1万人以上の群衆が参加して撮影が敢行された。
Set in Kyoto devastated after the Ōnin War, this grand period drama depicts the townspeople of Kyoto rising against the samurai class to protect their city with their own hands and take on the challenge of reviving the Gion Festival. The breathtaking float procession scenes were filmed with over 10,000 extras participating.
