片渕須直監督がこうの史代の同名漫画をアニメーション映画化して異例のロングランヒットを記録し、国内外で高い評価を得た「この世界の片隅に」に、新たなシーンを追加した長尺版。日本が戦争のただ中にあった昭和19年、広島県・呉に嫁いだすずは、夫・周作とその家族に囲まれ、新たな生活を始める。戦況の悪化に伴い生活も困窮していくが、すずは工夫を重ねて日々の暮らしを紡いでいく。そんなある日、迷い込んだ遊郭でリンという女性と出会ったすずは、境遇は異なるものの、呉ではじめて出会った同世代の女性であるリンと心を通わせていくが……。片渕監督のもと、主人公すず役ののん、今作でシーンの追加されたリン役の岩井七世らキャスト陣は変わらず続投。

An extended version of 'In This Corner of the World,' director Sunao Katabuchi's animated adaptation of Fumiyo Kouno's manga, which achieved an unprecedented long-running hit and high acclaim both domestically and internationally, with new scenes added. In 1944, during the war in Japan, Suzu moves to Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, after marrying Shusaku and begins a new life surrounded by her husband and his family. As the war situation worsens, life becomes more difficult, but Suzu uses her ingenuity to weave together daily life. One day, Suzu meets a woman named Rin at a brothel she stumbles into. Despite their different circumstances, Suzu connects with Rin, the first woman her age she has met in Kure... Under director Katabuchi, the cast remains unchanged, with Non as the protagonist Suzu and Nanase Iwai as Rin, whose scenes have been added in this version.
