原作は𠮷田聡の同名マンガ。東映ビデオがOVAで全12巻を発売し、撮影には劇場用アニメーションと同じ35mmフィルムが用いられた。刺すような透過光が湘南の太陽を的確に表現し、ひときわ鮮やかな青空を生んだ色彩設計は、公道を爆走する高校生たちの3年間の、ともすれば殺伐と誤解されがちな刹那の青春を生き生きと彩っている。『湘南爆走族Ⅲ 10オンスの絆』のみ劇場公開された。
Based on the manga of the same name by Satoshi Yoshida. Toei Video released all 12 volumes as OVAs, and 35mm film—the same used for theatrical animation—was used for shooting. The piercing transmitted light accurately captures the Shonan sun, and the color design that produced strikingly vivid blue skies vividly colors the fleeting youth of high school students speeding on public roads over three years—a time often misconstrued as brutal. Only 'Shonan Bousouzoku III: 10 Ounces of Bonds' was released theatrically.
