A documentary depicting Yoshimasu Gozo, a leading contemporary Japanese poet, as he visits Kyoto, a city rich with groundwater, questions the meaning of life through dialogue with 'water' and the changing seasons, and ultimately creates a poem. Witnessing the tsunami damage from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Yoshimasu was struck speechless by the impact of water that strips everything away. Seeking a new meaning for water, he visits Kyoto, known for its abundant groundwater. In Kyoto, a basin surrounded by deep mountains, Yoshimasu travels tracing the 'water' of the city, visiting places like Ryukyoin, where Kawabata Yasunari wrote 'The Old Capital,' as well as Daigo-ji, Myoshin-ji, Daitoku-ji, and Kifune Shrine. The film captures Yoshimasu's sensibility, which remains virginal even as he approaches 80, and his precious creative process.
