One night, a babysitter arrives for their young daughter as the couple heads to a party. She turns out to be his former lover, Marianne. Ferdinand slips out of the party, returns home alone, drives her home, and spends the night with her. Waking up the next morning, he finds a dead man with scissors stuck in his neck in her apartment. In contrast to his shock, Marianne calmly makes breakfast and sings. Ferdinand, leaving Paris with only the clothes on his back, follows her as she promises to explain later, heading to the south of France where her brother lives...
