Memory Door
A human drama that portrays the pure love between a woman facing early-onset dementia and a young man who has lived his life obeying his parents, while incorporating social themes such as dementia, young caregivers, and human dignity. Kazuya, a 27-year-old office worker, is a so-called obedient child who always listens to his parents. He lives a stable life meeting their expectations, but feels a sense of emptiness somewhere in his heart. One day, he happens to visit a "dementia café" and meets Reiko, a woman 20 years his senior. Despite suffering from early-onset dementia, Reiko's smile lights up those around her, and Kazuya is captivated. Witnessing Reiko facing her loneliness, he is drawn to her strength and human vulnerability. This encounter frees Kazuya from the rails laid by his parents, and for the first time in his life, he discovers true love. Directed and written by Etsuo Kato, whose 2023 film "Three Souls" was screened and won awards at numerous film festivals including the Tanabe-Benkei Film Festival. Minehiro Kinomoto and Shinobu Tsuji, who also appeared in "Three Souls," play Kazuya and Reiko respectively. Winner of the Grand Prix at the 20th Nakajima Film Festival.
