森見登美彦のベストセラー小説「四畳半神話大系」と劇団ヨーロッパ企画の人気舞台「サマータイムマシン・ブルース」がコラボレーションした小説「四畳半タイムマシンブルース」をアニメ化。 大学生の「私」が暮らす、京都・左京区の古びた下宿「下鴨幽水荘」。ある夏の日、下鴨幽水荘で唯一のエアコンが使えなくなってしまう。悪友の小津が昨晩、エアコンを水没させてしまったのだ。「私」が映画サークル「みそぎ」の明石さんと対策を協議していると、田村という名の見知らぬ男子学生が現れる。田村は25年後の未来からタイムマシンに乗ってやってきたという。その話を聞いた「私」は、タイムマシンで昨日の夜に戻り、壊れる前のリモコンを持ってこようと考える。しかし、小津たちが勝手気ままに過去を改変してしまい……。 「私」役の浅沼晋太郎、明石さん役の坂本真綾、小津役の吉野裕行ら、2010年に放送されたテレビアニメ版「四畳半神話大系」のキャストが再結集。森見原作の「夜は短し歩けよ乙女」も手がけたサイエンスSARUがアニメーション制作を担当した。

An anime adaptation of the novel 'The Tatami Time Machine Blues,' a collaboration between Tomihiko Morimi's bestselling novel 'The Tatami Galaxy' and the popular stage play 'Summer Time Machine Blues' by the theater group Europe Kikaku. The story follows 'I,' a university student living in a rundown boarding house called 'Shimogamo Yūsui-sō' in Kyoto's Sakyo Ward. One summer day, the only air conditioner in the boarding house breaks down. 'I's' bad friend Ozu had submerged it in water the night before. While 'I' discusses countermeasures with Akashi from the film club 'Misogi,' a strange male student named Tamura appears. Tamura claims to have come from 25 years in the future in a time machine. Hearing this, 'I' thinks about using the time machine to go back to the previous night and retrieve the remote control before it breaks. However, Ozu and the others start recklessly altering the past... The cast from the 2010 TV anime series 'The Tatami Galaxy' reunites, including Shintaro Asanuma as 'I,' Maaya Sakamoto as Akashi, and Hiroyuki Yoshino as Ozu. Science SARU, which also worked on Morimi's 'The Night is Short, Walk on Girl,' is in charge of animation production.
