イギリスの巨匠ケン・ローチが、「わたしは、ダニエル・ブレイク」「家族を想うとき」に続く「イギリス北東部3部作」の最終章として撮りあげたドラマ。 イングランド北部にある炭鉱の町で、最後に残ったパブとして住民たちから親しまれる「オールド・オーク」。町が活気にあふれていた時代から約30年が過ぎ、現在は厳しい状況に陥っているが、店主のTJ・バランタインは試行錯誤しながら経営を維持していた。しかし町がシリア難民を受け入れはじめたことで、人々が安らぎを見いだす場所だったはずのパブが、居場所を争う場へと変貌してしまう。そんな店の先行きに頭を抱えていたTJは、カメラを携えたシリアの女性ヤラと出会い、思いがけず友情を育んでいく。 ローチ監督と数々の名作でタッグを組んできたポール・ラバーティが脚本を手がけ、温かくもリアリズムあふれるまなざしで描き出す。パブの店主TJ役に、「わたしは、ダニエル・ブレイク」「家族を想うとき」にも出演したデイブ・ターナー。2023年・第76回ロカルノ国際映画祭で観客賞を受賞。第76回カンヌ国際映画祭コンペティション部門出品。

British master Ken Loach delivers the final chapter of his 'North East England Trilogy', following 'I, Daniel Blake' and 'Sorry We Missed You'. Set in a former mining town in Northern England, 'The Old Oak' is the last remaining pub cherished by locals. About 30 years after the town's vibrant heyday, it now faces harsh times, but owner TJ Ballantine struggles to keep it going through trial and error. However, when the town begins accepting Syrian refugees, the pub—once a place of solace—turns into a battleground for belonging. Wrestling with the pub's uncertain future, TJ meets Yara, a Syrian woman with a camera, and unexpectedly forms a friendship. Scripted by Paul Laverty, Loach's longtime collaborator, the film is portrayed with warmth and realism. Dave Turner, who appeared in 'I, Daniel Blake' and 'Sorry We Miss You', plays pub owner TJ. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival, and screened in competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
