喜劇王バスター・キートンが製作・監督・主演を務め、南北戦争時代のアメリカで実際に起きた列車強奪事件をモチーフに描いたアクション喜劇。機関士のジョニー・グレイは、自分が運転する機関車「将軍号」と恋人アナベルを心から愛していた。ところがある日、将軍号が北軍スパイに奪われてしまう。しかもその荷物車にはアナベルが乗っていた。別の機関車で将軍号を追うジョニーだったが、知らぬ間に北軍の真っただ中に入り込んでしまい……。「キートンの大列車追跡」「キートンの大列車強盗」の邦題でも知られる。

Comedy king Buster Keaton produced, directed, and starred in this action comedy inspired by a real train robbery during the American Civil War era. Engineer Johnny Gray deeply loves both his locomotive, "The General," and his beloved Annabelle. One day, however, "The General" is stolen by Union spies, and Annabelle is trapped in the boxcar. Johnny pursues the General on another locomotive, but unwittingly finds himself deep in Union territory... Also known under the Japanese titles "Keaton's Great Train Chase" and "Keaton's Great Train Robbery."
