「EUREKA ユリイカ」の青山真治監督が、謎の致死性ウイルスが蔓延した世界で未来への希望を見いだそうとする人々の姿を、希望の象徴である“音”と美しい映像で描いた近未来ドラマ。 2015年。映像を通してウイルス感染し確実に死に至る「レミング病」が世界中に蔓延し、人々は絶望感に満ちた日々を送っていた。そんな中、発病を抑制する唯一の方法が発見される。それは、ミズイとアスハラの演奏する“音”を聴くことだった。ある日、彼らのもとに、レミング病に感染した孫娘ハナを助けてほしいという富豪が現れる。ミズイを浅野忠信、ハナを宮崎あおい、アスハラをミュージシャンの中原昌也、ハナの祖父を作家の筒井康隆が演じた。 タイトルの「エリ・エリ・レマ・サバクタニ」はイエス・キリストの最期の言葉で、「神よ、何ゆえに我を見捨てたもうや」を意味するヘブライ語。2005年・第58回カンヌ国際映画祭「ある視点」部門出品作品。

A near-future drama by director Shinji Aoyama of "EUREKA," depicting people striving to find hope for the future in a world ravaged by a mysterious deadly virus, through the symbol of hope—"sound"—and beautiful imagery. In 2015, "Lemming Disease," which is transmitted through images and inevitably leads to death, has spread worldwide, and people live in despair. Amid this, the only method to suppress the onset of the disease is discovered: listening to the "sound" performed by Mizui and Asuhara. One day, a wealthy man appears before them, asking them to save his granddaughter Hana, who has been infected with Lemming Disease. Mizui is played by Tadanobu Asano, Hana by Aoi Miyazaki, Asuhara by musician Masaya Nakahara, and Hana's grandfather by author Yasutaka Tsutsui. The title "Eri Eri Rema Sabakutani" refers to the last words of Jesus Christ, Hebrew for "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 58th Cannes Film Festival in 2005.
