写真集「タルサ」などで知られ、ティーンエイジャーのリアルな姿を撮り続けてきた写真家ラリー・クラークが、1995年に発表した映画監督デビュー作。セックスやドラッグ、暴力、HIVなど、90年代当時のストリートに生きるティーンエイジャーたちの現実を、ドキュメンタリータッチで生々しく描き、その内容で全米に賛否両論を巻き起こした一作。 ニューヨーク、夏のある暑い日の午後。テリーはいつものように、バージンの女の子をモノにしたことを自慢しながら、仲間とたむろしている。一方、ルビーの家に集まるジェニーら5人の女の子たちも、セックスの話ばかりしていた。経験豊富で無防備なセックスを楽しむルビーは、自身の体験談をネタに盛り上がる。ジェニーは、バージンを奪ったきり連絡もよこさないテリーに憤りを感じていた。HIV感染を心配するルビーは、ジェニーに検査を勧め、その結果を一緒に聞きに行く。テリーとのセックスしか経験のないジェニーだったが、検査結果は陽性だった。たった一度、たったひとりとのセックスで、突然、死の宣告を受けることになったジェニーは、テリーにこの事実を伝えようとする。しかし、自分がHIVキャリアであることも知らないテリーは、新たなバージンの子を誘い出してはしゃいでいた。 脚本は、当時19歳だったハーモニー・コリン。撮影は「マイ・プライベート・アイダホ」の名カメラマン、エリック・エドワーズ。音楽はオルタナティブ・ロックバンド「ダイナソーJr.」のルー・バーロウが担当。製作総指揮にはガス・バン・サントが名を連ねた。ジェニー役は、当時演技未経験だったクロエ・セビニーが務め、ルビー役をロザリオ・ドーソンが演じた。

Photographer Larry Clark, known for his photo book "Tulsa" and for continuously capturing the real lives of teenagers, made his directorial debut with this 1995 film. It vividly depicts the reality of teenagers living on the streets in the 1990s—sex, drugs, violence, HIV—in a documentary-like style, sparking nationwide controversy in America. On a hot summer afternoon in New York, Telly is hanging out with his friends as usual, bragging about having bagged a virgin girl. Meanwhile, at Ruby's house, Jenny and four other girls are also talking only about sex. Ruby, who enjoys experienced and unprotected sex, gets excited sharing her own stories. Jenny is angry at Telly, who took her virginity and then never contacted her again. Worried about HIV infection, Ruby suggests Jenny get tested and goes with her to hear the results. Jenny had only ever had sex with Telly, and the test result is positive. Having received a death sentence from just one sexual encounter with one person, Jenny tries to tell Telly the truth. But Telly, unaware that he is an HIV carrier, is out having fun luring a new virgin. The screenplay was written by Harmony Korine, then 19 years old. Cinematography is by Eric Edwards, the renowned cameraman of "My Own Private Idaho." Music is by Lou Barlow of the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. Gus Van Sant served as executive producer. Chloë Sevigny, who had no acting experience at the time, played Jenny, and Rosario Dawson played Ruby.
