台湾の名匠ホウ・シャオシェンが、祖父の住む田舎でひと夏を過ごす幼い兄妹の姿を通し、自然の美しさや子どもたちの友情をみずみずしく描いた名作ドラマ。 台北の小学校を卒業したトントンは、母が入院したため、幼い妹と2人で夏休みを田舎の祖父の家で過ごすことに。近所の子どもたちともすぐに仲良くなり、トントンは田畑を駆け回って楽しいひと夏を過ごす。一方、妹のティンティンはなかなか仲間に加えてもらうことができず、兄たちにいたずらをしたりして過ごしていたが、やがて台北から父親が迎えにきて……。 兄妹の父親役で、「恐怖分子」「ヤンヤン　夏の想い出」などで知られる映画監督のエドワード・ヤンが出演している。1990年に日本初公開。2016年および2025年にそれぞれデジタルリマスター版でリバイバル公開。

Taiwanese master Hou Hsiao-hsien crafts a masterpiece drama that vividly portrays the beauty of nature and childhood friendship through the story of a young brother and sister spending a summer in their grandfather's countryside home. After graduating from elementary school in Taipei, Tongtong's mother is hospitalized, so he and his little sister spend summer vacation at their grandfather's house in the countryside. They quickly become friends with the neighborhood children, and Tongtong enjoys a fun summer running through the fields. Meanwhile, his sister Tingting struggles to join the group and passes the time by playing pranks on her brother and his friends, until their father eventually comes from Taipei to pick them up. The father of the siblings is played by filmmaker Edward Yang, known for "The Terrorizers" and "Yi Yi." First released in Japan in 1990. Digital remastered versions were re-released in 2016 and 2025.
