1980年代初頭のアイルランドを舞台に、9歳の少女が過ごす特別な夏休みを描いたヒューマンドラマ。第72回ベルリン国際映画祭で子どもが主役の映画を対象にした国際ジェネレーション部門でグランプリを受賞し、第95回アカデミー賞の国際長編映画賞にノミネートもされた。 1981年、アイルランドの田舎町。大家族の中でひとり静かに暮らす寡黙な少女コットは、夏休みを親戚夫婦キンセラ家の緑豊かな農場で過ごすことに。はじめのうちは慣れない生活に戸惑うコットだったが、ショーンとアイリンの夫婦の愛情をたっぷりと受け、ひとつひとつの生活を丁寧に過ごす中で、これまで経験したことのなかった生きる喜びを実感していく。 本作がデビュー作となるキャサリン・クリンチが主人公コットを圧倒的な透明感と存在感で繊細に演じ、IFTA賞（アイリッシュ映画＆テレビアカデミー賞）主演女優賞を史上最年少の12歳で受賞。アイルランドの作家クレア・キーガンの小説「Foster」を原作に、これまでドキュメンタリー作品を中心に子どもの視点や家族の絆を描いてきたコルム・バレードが長編劇映画初監督・脚本を手がけた。

Set in early 1980s Ireland, this human drama depicts a special summer vacation experienced by a 9-year-old girl. It won the Grand Prix in the International Generation section for films starring children at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for the International Feature Film Award at the 95th Academy Awards. In 1981, in a rural Irish town, a quiet girl named Cott, who lives silently within a large family, spends her summer vacation at the lush green farm of the Kinsella couple. Initially confused by the unfamiliar life, Cott receives abundant love from Sean and Eileen and, as she carefully experiences each moment, comes to feel a joy in living she had never known before. Catherine Clinch, in her debut role, delicately portrays the protagonist Cott with overwhelming transparency and presence, winning the IFTA Award (Irish Film & Television Academy Award) for Best Actress at the youngest age of 12. Based on the novel "Foster" by Irish writer Claire Keegan, this is the first feature-length fiction film directed and written by Colm Bairéad, who has previously focused on children's perspectives and family bonds in his documentary works.
