「君の名は。」「天気の子」の新海誠監督が、日本各地の廃墟を舞台に、災いの元となる「扉」を閉める旅に出た少女の冒険と成長を描いた長編アニメーション。 九州で暮らす17歳の岩戸鈴芽（すずめ）は、扉を探しているという旅の青年・宗像草太と出会う。彼の後を追って山中の廃墟にたどり着いたすずめは、そこだけ崩壊から取り残されたかのようにたたずむ古びた扉を見つけ、引き寄せられるようにその扉に手を伸ばす。やがて、日本各地で次々と扉が開き始める。扉の向こう側からは災いがやって来るため、すずめは扉を閉める「戸締りの旅」に出ることに。数々の驚きや困難に見舞われながらも前へと進み続けるすずめだったが……。 「罪の声」「胸が鳴るのは君のせい」などに出演してきた若手俳優の原菜乃華が、オーディションを経て主人公すずめ役の声優に抜てきされた。草太役はこれが声優初挑戦の「SixTONES」の松村北斗。そのほか、深津絵里、染谷将太、伊藤沙莉、花瀬琴音、松本白鸚らが声優を務め、新海作品常連の神木隆之介、花澤香菜も出演。音楽も、新海監督と3度目のタッグとなる「RADWIMPS」が、作曲家の陣内一真とともに担当した。2023年・第73回ベルリン国際映画祭のコンペティション部門に出品され、同映画祭で最高賞の金熊賞を受賞した「千と千尋の神隠し」以来21年ぶりとなる、日本アニメーション作品のベルリン映画祭コンペ入りを果たした。

Director Makoto Shinkai, of "Your Name." and "Weathering with You," presents a feature animation depicting the adventure and growth of a girl who journeys across ruins throughout Japan to close "doors" that bring disaster. Suzume Iwato, a 17-year-old living in Kyushu, meets Souta Munakata, a young man on a journey searching for doors. Following him to a mountain ruin, Suzume finds an old door standing as if spared from the surrounding collapse, and is drawn to reach for it. Soon, doors begin opening one after another across Japan. As calamities come from beyond the doors, Suzume embarks on a journey to close them. Despite numerous surprises and hardships, Suzume continues forward, but... Nanoka Hara, a young actress known for "The Sound of Sin" and "My Heart Beats for You," was chosen through auditions to voice the protagonist Suzume. Hokuto Matsumura of SixTONES voices Souta, marking his voice acting debut. Also voicing roles are Eri Fukatsu, Shota Someno, Sairi Ito, Kotone Hanase, and Hakuo Matsumoto, with regular Shinkai collaborators Ryunosuke Kamiki and Kana Hanazawa also appearing. Music is again by RADWIMPS, in their third collaboration with Shinkai, alongside composer Kazuma Jinnouchi. Screened in competition at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in 2023, marking the first Japanese animated film in competition there in 21 years since "Spirited Away," which won the Golden Bear.
