A sensual melodrama based on the play of the same name by F. Wedekind, which gave L. Brooks, who moved from Hollywood to Germany, the nickname 'Lulu' after her character. Lulu, a dancer in a seedy dive, becomes the mistress of Dr. Schön, a newspaper publisher, through the skills of her foster father Schigolch. She rises to perform in top theaters, and when Schön tries to break up with her, she turns the tables and forces him to marry her. Schön has a son of marriageable age, Alwa, who is also his secretary, and Lulu seduces him as if enjoying tearing the father and son apart. When Schön learns of her numerous affairs and the decisive truth, he threatens to kill Lulu and then himself, but in the struggle, she shoots him. Although captured, she escapes during the trial with the help of her foster father and Alwa. She lives a life of pleasure on a gambling ship in a port town, introduced by her lover, the strongman Rodrigo. But when Rodrigo sells her, a fight breaks out over her, and Lulu, her foster father, and Alwa secretly enter London. Reduced to extreme poverty in the slums, Lulu decides to become a prostitute, bringing a man into her room while the two men wait outside, unaware that the effeminate man is the infamous Jack the Ripper...
