The cargo ship Saitama Maru, having completed a three-month ocean voyage, was on its way home to unload its cargo. The sailors send telegrams to their families and lovers to let them know. But just two days later, they must set off again for another destination. This is a drama of the joys and sorrows each man experiences in his limited time ashore. Kimura spent six months living alongside sailors to research the film, depicting the daily lives of men who work at sea without exaggeration while also carefully portraying the feelings of the women waiting for their return. Among the sailors, one can spot Juzo Itami before his acting debut at Daiei.
