Synopsis: A shocking work depicting the fierce struggle for survival of women who become prostitutes in the burnt-out ruins of Osaka immediately after Japan's defeat. Among the many masterpieces by Tanaka and her ally Mizoguchi, this film leaves a vivid impression with Mizoguchi's cold-hearted direction and Tanaka's passionate performance as a war widow forced into street prostitution.
