Set in Shanghai during World War II, this spy noir depicts the back-and-forth battle of nameless spies among the Chinese Communist Party, the Kuomintang, and the Japanese military. Starring Hong Kong superstar Tony Leung, who won the Best Actor award at the 53rd Cannes International Film Festival for 'In the Mood for Love' (2000) and has recently gained attention from younger generations for his role in 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' (21). The other lead is Wang Yibo, who debuted as a member of the China-Korean joint unit 'UNIQ' and later broke out as an actor in the TV drama 'The Untamed' (19), now one of the most sought-after young actors in China. This film marks his first leading role in a movie, and he has since starred in multiple films, winning the Best Actor award at the 20th Film Channel Media Awards for his second lead role in 'Born to Fly' (23) alongside this film. The intense, stunt-free action sequences performed by the two leads captivate with overwhelming tension and unparalleled beauty. Directed by Chen Er, who previously helmed 'Once Upon a Time in Shanghai' (16). Chen also wrote and edited this film, and Tony Leung was so impressed by the script—only Chen's fourth feature—that he agreed to star. Nominated for eight awards including Best Picture and Best Actor at the 36th China Film Golden Rooster Awards, the highest honor in Chinese cinema, held in November last year. Wang Yibo, making his film debut, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Tony Leung won Best Actor, and director Chen Er won Best Director and Best Editing, achieving a triple crown.
