A drama depicting the friendship and conflict between a boy from Tokyo evacuated to Toyama during the wartime year of 1944 and a local boy. Fujiko Fujio A adapted Kashiwabara Hyozo's novel into a manga, which director Shinoda Masahiro then brought to the screen. In October 1944, as the war situation deteriorated, Tokyo fifth-grader Kazama Shinji was evacuated to Toyama. The frail, studious Shinji is treated as an outsider at school.
