ヌーベルバーグを代表する監督のひとりとして知られるフランスの名匠クロード・シャブロル監督が、当時の妻であるステファーヌ・オードランを主演に迎えて手がけたサスペンススリラー。 保険会社の重役シャルルは、妻エレーヌや息子とともに幸せな毎日を送っているが、ある日、エレーヌが不審な電話に応対している姿を偶然目にする。妻の不貞を疑ったシャルルは探偵を雇い、エレーヌの浮気相手が作家のペガラであることを突き止める。シャルルはペガラの家を訪れ、妻の浮気相手と対面する。当初は平静を装っていたシャルルだったが、次第に嫉妬と怒りの感情に駆られていき……。 アニエス・バルダの「幸福」やジャック・ドゥミの「シェルブールの雨傘」などの撮影を手がけた撮影監督ジャン・ラビエによる洗練された映像美や名優たちの共演、繊細な心理描写などが見どころ。日本では劇場未公開だったが、1960年代後半から70年に発表されたシャブロルのサスペンス3本をラインナップした「クロード・シャブロル傑作選」（2026年2月13日からシネマリス、Morc阿佐ヶ谷ほか）にて日本劇場初公開。

A suspense thriller from French master Claude Chabrol, a leading figure of the New Wave, starring his wife at the time, Stéphane Audran. Charles, an insurance executive, lives a happy life with his wife Hélène and their son, but one day he happens to catch Hélène answering a suspicious phone call. Suspecting her of infidelity, Charles hires a private detective and discovers that her lover is a writer named Pégala. Charles visits Pégala’s home to meet his wife's lover face-to-face. Though he initially maintains a facade of composure, he is gradually overcome by jealousy and rage... Highlights include the sophisticated visual beauty captured by cinematographer Jean Rabier (known for Agnès Varda’s *Le Bonheur* and Jacques Demy’s *The Umbrellas of Cherbourg*), the performances of a distinguished cast, and delicate psychological portrayals. Previously unreleased in Japanese theaters, the film will make its domestic theatrical debut as part of the "Claude Chabrol Masterpiece Selection" (starting February 13, 2026, at Cinema Rise, Morc Asagaya, and other venues), a retrospective featuring three of Chabrol’s suspense films released between the late 1960s and 1970.
