押井守原作の漫画「犬狼伝説」の映画化で、押井監督が手がけた実写映画「紅い眼鏡 The Red Spectacles」「ケルベロス　地獄の番犬」と同じ「ケルベロス・サーガ」に連なる一作。架空の昭和30年代を舞台に、特殊部隊のエリート隊員とゲリラ組織の少女の愛憎と悲恋を描く。 敗戦後の混迷からようやく抜け出し始めた日本の首都圏では、激化する武装闘争に対応するため「首都圏治安警察機構」＝通称「首都警」が組織されていた。首都警の戦闘部隊「特機隊」に所属する伏一貴は、過激派集団の暴動を鎮圧するため出動した先で、爆弾の運搬役の少女と遭遇。引き金を引くことをためらった一瞬の隙に、少女は自ら爆弾を爆発させ自殺してしまう。任務を遂行できなかった伏は、訓練学校に戻り再訓練を命じられるが、そんなある日、自爆した少女とそっくりの女性と出会う。 「AKIRA」や「機動警察パトレイバー」の原画も手がけてきたアニメーターの沖浦啓之が初監督を務め、ベルリン国際映画祭などに出品され高い評価を受けた。2026年3月には公開25周年を記念し、4Kリマスター＆Dolby Atmos化されてリバイバル上映＆ソフト発売。

A film adaptation of Mamoru Oshii's manga "Kerberos Panzer Cop," part of the "Kerberos Saga" that also includes Oshii's live-action films "The Red Spectacles" and "StrayDog: Kerberos Panzer Cops." Set in an alternate 1960s Japan, it depicts the love, hatred, and tragic romance between an elite special forces officer and a guerrilla girl. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, emerging from post-war chaos, the "Capital Police" is formed to combat escalating armed conflicts. Kazuki Fuse, a member of the Special Assault Team, encounters a girl carrying a bomb during a riot suppression. Hesitating to pull the trigger, the girl detonates the bomb and kills herself. Fuse is sent back to training school for failing his mission, but one day he meets a woman who looks exactly like the girl. This is the directorial debut of animator Hiroyuki Okiura, known for key animation on "Akira" and "Patlabor," and it received high praise at the Berlin International Film Festival. In March 2026, a 4K remastered and Dolby Atmos version will be released for revival screenings and home video to mark the 25th anniversary.
