ロックンロール創始者の代表格で、「ロックの父」の異名を持つアーティスト、チャック・ベリーのドキュメンタリー。 1950年代にギター主導のビートとストーリーテリング的な歌詞を融合させ、ロックンロールの原型を作りあげたチャック・ベリー。若者文化とアイデンティティを音楽で表現し、若者中心の大衆音楽という新しい潮流を築いた。人種の壁を超えて人気を博した初の黒人ロックンローラーとしても知られ、後続の黒人アーティストたちの道を切り拓いたパイオニアでもある。1986年にはロックの殿堂入りをした最初のアーティストの1人となり、84年にグラミー賞特別功労賞（生涯業績賞）、2000年にケネディ・センター名誉賞を受賞した。 本作には、チャック・ベリー本人のインタビューやパフォーマンスに加え、ビートルズ、ローリング・ストーンズ、ジミ・ヘンドリックス、キース・リチャーズ、ポール・マッカートニー、ブルース・スプリングスティーンといったロック界のレジェンドたちが彼の名曲をカバーした映像を収録。「カラーパープル」「リーサル・ウェポン」シリーズの名優ダニー・グローバーがナレーションを務めた。

Produced for PBS as a tribute to Chuck Berry (1926–2017)—the founder of rock and roll who transcended barriers of race and generation to exert a profound influence on future artists, culture, and society. This documentary brings together rare footage of Berry’s signature songs performed by the man himself and the rock legends he inspired, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen. These performances were collected with the permission of the artists and their estates, with many of them digitally remastered. The film is narrated by Danny Glover, star of *The Color Purple* and the *Lethal Weapon* series.
