The untold story of mixed martial artist Mark Kerr, who rose to fame during the early days of the "PRIDE" tournament that captivated all of Japan, is brought to film by Dwayne Johnson—also known as the wrestler The Rock—who stars and produces. Making his MMA debut in 1997, Mark Kerr rose undefeated to the top. After consecutive wins in the UFC, he also made a stunning run in Japan's PRIDE, becoming feared as "the strongest man in the hominidae family," but the pressure quietly eroded his mind. Kerr gradually became dependent on painkillers, and his relationship with his girlfriend Dawn deteriorated. After experiencing his first defeat, he finally confronts his own weakness and decides to step back into the ring to rebuild his life. Dwayne Johnson, inspired by the 2002 documentary of the same name, personally secured the film rights and carefully portrays the vulnerable side of a tough man. Emily Blunt plays Kerr's girlfriend Dawn, and Japanese actors including Tadanobu Asano, Satoshi Ishii, Yasuko Mitsuura, and Tomoyasu Hotei also appear. Benny Safdie, highly acclaimed for his co-directed works with his brother Josh such as "Uncut Gems," makes his solo directorial debut with this film, winning the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in 2025. A team led by Japanese makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji handled the special effects makeup, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 98th Academy Awards.
