日本・ミャンマー合作による初長編作「僕の帰る場所」が第30回東京国際映画祭「アジアの未来」部門グランプリを受賞するなど、国内外で高い評価を受けた藤元明緒監督の長編第2作。日本とミャンマー両国で引き裂かれる在日ミャンマー人家族の実話を映画化した前作に続き、今作でも在日アジア人の実態をテーマに取り上げ、外国人技能実習生として来日した若い女性たちの置かれた現実を描いた。技能実習生として日本へやってきたものの、不当な扱いを受けた職場を逃げ出した3人のベトナム人女性たち。違法な存在となった彼女たちはブローカーを頼りに新たな職を求め、雪の降る北の港町にたどり着くが……。藤元監督がインターネットを通じて知り合った外国人技能実習生の女性が、過酷な労働の日々の末に行方知れずになったことから、彼女と同様の境遇にある女性たちを取材し、オリジナルの脚本を書き上げた。

This is the second feature film by director Akiro Fujimoto, whose first feature 'Where I Belong'—a Japan-Myanmar co-production—won the Grand Prize in the 'Asian Future' section of the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival and received high acclaim both in Japan and abroad. Following his previous film, which dramatized the true story of a Myanmar family torn between Japan and Myanmar, this work again tackles the realities of Asian residents in Japan, depicting the plight of young women who come to Japan as technical intern trainees. Three Vietnamese women, who fled their workplaces after being mistreated, become undocumented. Relying on brokers to find new jobs, they end up in a snowy northern port town... Fujimoto met a female technical intern trainee online who later disappeared after grueling daily labor; he interviewed women in similar situations and wrote an original script.
