北欧アイスランドにある男女共学の家政学校を取材したドキュメンタリー。アイスランドの首都レイキャビクに、1942年に創立された小さな家政学校「The School of Housewives」。学生たちは寮で共同生活を送りながら、生活全般の家事を実践的に学ぶことができる。かつて、義務教育後に進学の機会が少なかった女性たちを良き主婦に育成する家政学校は世界各地にあったが、時代の移り変わりとともにその多くが衰退していった。そんな中、この学校は1970年代に男女共学となり、性別に関係なく「いまを生きる」ための知恵と技術を求める学生たちが集まってきている。自立した人生を楽しむための術を学ぶ彼らの姿を通し、暮らしや家事のあり方について柔らかく問いかける。

A documentary covering a coeducational home economics school in Iceland. Founded in 1942 in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, 'The School of Housewives' is a small home economics school where students live together in a dormitory and learn practical household management skills. Once common worldwide, home economics schools that trained women, who had few educational opportunities after compulsory education, to become good housewives have largely declined with the changing times. Amidst this, this school became coeducational in the 1970s, attracting students regardless of gender who seek wisdom and skills for 'living in the present.' Through the students learning the art of enjoying an independent life, the film gently questions our approach to daily living and housework.
