「抵抗（レジスタンス）　死刑囚の手記より」のロベール・ブレッソン監督がスリを題材に手がけたサスペンスドラマ。 生まれつき手先が器用な貧しい大学生ミシェルは、いつしかスリをして生計を立てていくようになる。最初は警察に捕まりもしたが証拠不十分で釈放され、次第に犯行は組織だったものになっていく。一方、母親のアパートの隣室に住むジャンヌはミシェルにひかれていくが……。優れた人間は法を犯す自由があると考える青年ミシェルが、スリの技に魅了され自ら破滅の道を進んでいく姿を描く。 前作「抵抗（レジスタンス）　死刑囚の手記より」に続いて職業俳優は起用されておらず、撮影当時16歳だったジャンヌ役のマリカ・グリーンは、本作を機に俳優となった。1960年に日本初公開。2011年、ブレッソンの名作をニュープリント版で上映する「映画の國名作選III ロベール・ブレッソンの芸術」でリバイバル公開。2026年には、ブレッソンの名作をレストア版で上映する「ロベール・ブレッソン傑作選」にて、2Kレストア版でリバイバル公開。

Michel, a poor university student, discovers by chance that he has a talent for pickpocketing. Though once caught by a detective, he is released due to lack of evidence and soon targets others' wallets again. Eventually, his methods become organized as he brings in accomplices. In 'A Man Escaped,' Bresson realistically and thrillingly depicted a prison break; here, he turns his focus to pickpocketing, introducing actual techniques while portraying a lonely young man distrustful of others. A gripping masterpiece where the realism born from amateur actors and the suspense created by various pickpocketing scenes blend seamlessly.
