It depicts a middle school science teacher entrusted with the fate of Earth on the brink of extinction, who encounters an unknown life form with the same purpose at the edge of the universe, and together they risk their lives to save their home planets. An unexplained anomaly occurs where the sun's energy is being drained. If this continues, Earth will freeze and humanity will perish. It is discovered that the same phenomenon is happening not only to the sun but to countless stars scattered across the universe, and a single intact star is found 11.9 light-years away. Humanity's only remaining option is to travel to that star in a spaceship and solve the mystery to save the sun and humanity. Sent into space for this "Hail Mary" project is Grace, a brilliant scientist who left academia and now works as a humble middle school teacher. Alone in the vastness of space far from Earth, he relies on his scientific knowledge to tackle the mission, where he meets Rocky, an alien also struggling to save his home planet. Despite their different forms and languages, the two use science as a common language to face challenges, developing a friendship along the way. Ryan Gosling of "La La Land" and "Barbie" plays the protagonist middle school teacher Grace, with Sandra Hüller of "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Zone of Interest" co-starring. Drew Goddard, who also worked on "The Martian," wrote the screenplay, and Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, known for producing and writing the "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" series, directed.
